It’s important to remember that we all have magic inside of us. - J.K. Rowling

20 years ago, J.K. Rowling’s first Harry Potter was released, and I went from a non-reader to someone who read every book she could get her hands on. For me, the most important thing about the Harry Potter series is that it has served as the fundamental source of my inspiration for many things that I have written. The stories I tell are born from characters like Hermione Granger, Ginny Weasley, Minerva McGonagall, Nymphadora Tonks, Bellatrix Lestrange, Narcissia Malfoy, Sirius Black, and many others.

And the best part is that I can love this series, be inspired by it, and still look at it with a critical eye. There are many things about the stories that I didn’t love, but that’s not going to stop me from picking up Prisoner of Azkaban (which, in my opinion, is the best book of the series) whenever I’m inclined.

Writing a book is nothing short of accomplishing something magical. It’s not something everyone can do, just like not everyone in the Harry Potter series is magically inclined. It doesn’t matter where you find your inspiration, just find it, and take what it teaches you so that you can tell YOUR story.
