Part Forty Two of You Will Find Your Way
Mathias, Dallas, and Hilda have a very specific set of skills. Subtly is not included.

“Run this by me again, because this sounds both incredibly illegal and a terrible idea.”

“Oh Dallas, you’ve grown so dramatic in your advanced age. It’s quite unbecoming.”

“That’s it, where’s my knife?”

“Damn it Dallas, sit down!”

“Make me!

Giselle does, shoves her hard in the chest and pushes her back onto the couch.

“Fine, say this isn’t the worst idea in the history of bad ideas,” Dallas’ eyes burn when she blinks, so she squeezes them shut and presses her fingertips against them. “But that still means high-level b-and-e that none of us are qualified to do, and it’s not like we can just waltz on in there, I’m pretty sure one of the librarians is a witch.”

She can hear the way Giselle holds back a scoff, “You think all old women are witches.”

“Just the ones that look their age.”

Part Forty One of You Will Find Your Way
Another step closer to maybe, sort of getting an answer.

Try as she might, Dallas falls asleep somewhere between Giselle turning the focus back to realizing that there’s possibly a connection between what happened all those years ago and the repeated weather occurrences from the other night, and Mathias and Hilda being incredibly evasive about what they may or may not know about the thinning between this known universe and—

A world not known.

As terrifying as it is, Dallas just can’t keep her eyes open any longer.

She wakes with a jolt to the sound of a pointed knock on the door, and her instincts and the stress from the week sends her heart pounding against her ribcage.

Her eyes flick from one side of the room to the other—Mathias is awake and alert, one hand on his sword, Hilda looks completely at ease, Luke is looking at the door with suspicion, while Giselle sleeps with half her body on the coffee table, the rest sprawled out to one side in a way that’s definitely doing no justice to the muscles in her back.

Dallas scrubs her hands through her hair, winces when she encounters a mass of dampened tangles, “I guess I should get that,” she grumbles when whoever’s out there knocks again, forceful and bold. “Hide the pointy things.”

She’s not sure if her words even make sense, she’s not remotely awake enough for that, and swings her legs over the side of the couch. When she stands, her right hip protests after so many hours lying on it, so when she takes the first step, she nearly falls on her face.

She’s beauty and she’s grace.

Part Forty of You Will Find Your Way
Giselle is an astrophysicist, not a meteorologist, damn it.

What.

Dallas blinks, blinks again, but Giselle is still facing her with that expectant look like she should know what she’s talking about and—Dallas is incredibly confused, but she probably shouldn’t be? Should be? Both?

Maybe she does need to go to bed.

She rubs her eyes and stumbles the rest of the way into the living room. She flops onto the couch and proper her head on her hand, “Explain whatever this is to me,” Giselle opens her mouth, probably to do just that, but Dallas cuts her off. “Explain as if I am a small child with a very short attention span.”

Giselle lifts the crinkled Post-It that they nearly lost to the dust bunnies that live under the couch, “There was an atmospheric disturbance the night your blade started glowing.”

“And?”
