She finally unfolds her legs, but when she tries to get back to her feet, Dallas’ ankle gives out and she tips forward, almost lands chin-first in the gravel. Mathias catches her before she can split her face open, tugs her back and grips her side until she steadies.

The space between her shoulders itches. Dallas swipes her hand back, wincing when her shoulder pops when she wraps her fingers around the hilt of her blade.

“It’s not glowing,” Mathias grunts as his fingers curl around her wrist. “Calm down.”
